CLAIRE DAWSON, KENYA OCTOBER 2012
Girlguiding Stone Outward has embarked on an ambitious project to send guides and leaders to Mombasa Kenya in October 2012. They will be undertaking a service project in the remote village of Kididima. The work will comprise building and decorating within Kididima: eight classrooms, a community hall, a health centre, and a shower and toilet block. They have already piped water into Kididima for its 5000 villagers.Claire Dawson says:"The project that we are currently focusing on is to build a community school with numerous classrooms which will be bright and cheerful to encourage learning within the community: an allotment to provide sustainable food for the village; a community area which is safe for the children and young people to enjoy and finally a medical area with showers and other sanitation facilities. This is also an enrichment programme for the girl guides that participate, encouraging them to grow into healthy, hardworking members of the local community.
